Three possible answers:

1. Never. Receptions at hundreds of miles take place during the summer.

2. When the noise levels get so bad that you give up. It's worse for the
guys in thunderstorm-prone areas.

3. Activity and interest has tended to droop starting in April or early May.
Some of the guys spend time with Hifer (13.55 MHz) stuff over the summer. If
the 136 kHz amateur band materializes in that time frame, all bets are off,
however.
