[Lowfer] New Ham band

Mike:

I expect to converse with Jay Bellows, KQB, <ARRL Dakota Division Director>
later this week. I will ask him if there is any change in the status of
granting us the new LF band. Regretably, the power company lobbying groups
have done an about face and declared that such a band could cause 'homeland
security' problems by hams interfering with PLC's. I suspect the real
concern is that the power companies do not meet the FCC requirements for
emmissions from the PLC's and by preventing any FCC allocated frequencies
from being specified for a licensed service in that frequency range they can
avoid being challenged for 'improper interference with a licensed service'.

It is wonderful how the political mind works!

With the success of the 600MRG in getting their license, I was wondering
what the list thought about petitioning the FCC to grant licenses for some
of us to start transmitting in the new LF band. As I understand it, it is
the allocations at the higher frequencies that are holding everything up.

Anyone have any thoughts? Tod?

If there is support for the idea I would be happy to coordinate it.
