Just after succeeding in getting out a good signal at 100 miles with my 
first 50/50 loop, back about 4 years ago, I ran over 2 months of thorough 
tests with all different conductor configurations in order to  get a handle 
on all the variables. Turned out that multiturn loops from 2 to four 4 turns 
performed far lower than expected. The far field radiation was proportional 
to the number of turns, as the text books indicated (assuming the same loop 
current between all versions), but the Rac was much higher than the math 
predicted. I concluded, at that time, the losses introduced by the ground 
were multiplied by the number of turns. I didn't feel the promimity effect 
between conductors was the problem since I spaced them at least 6". I was 
always able to achieve better performance by paralleling the turns. What 
really put an end to my multi-turn exploration was the discovery that they 
were extremely sensitive to de-tuning effects caused by the wind.
