Mitch,
Great story about the dry snow in the artic!
>Bill - I changed the transformer ratio from 12:1 to 6:1 and doubled the
>rf current in the loop. Now measuring 1 amp rms - using rf ammeter.
That makes more sense. Was having some doubts as to the ability of a pair of
#16 paralleled loop wires having a current of 1A with 1W of input power, or
an Rac of 1 ohm. (I didn't check out the math the other night) Let's
see..... assuming 20V p-p from the Xmitter you would have 20/2.828 =~ 7V rms
to work with at the primary. Dividing this by 6 would be would be 1.16V rms
at the secondary, and at 1A, the Rac would also be 1.16 ohms - which would
right on the money for #12 according to Table 1 of the LLB (Lowfer Loop
Bible <G>) for dry conditions.
Kinda figured you should be lighting up our screens more that you seemed to
be. So what went wrong with the original current probe?
Bill
PS: Dying to get back to my 3/4" test loop. Just a cable to go. This Garage
project has taken on giant proportions, but at least, now, I will have an
out-of-house drill press, vise, grinder, and two clean benches to begin
messing up with loop experiments! <G>
