[Lowfer] Charge build-up

I've never experienced your "dry snow static buildup" but some years ago 
when I was trying to receive on my Lowfer vertical I was getting this 
horrendous screeching sound that must have been some kind of electrical 
discharge. The base of the antenna was in effect, grounded, so the discharge 
must have been from the antenna to the surrounding air or vise-versa. Seems 
like I could change the grounding and affect the pitch of the screech. It 
was in the winter but the humidity was very high - like a London Fog. Ever 
seen this effect??
