Maybe not. Dex's point is that a loop located in the woods is vulnerable to 
falling limbs where a vertical located in the open is not. The ropes 
supporting the vertical can be 'fused' in order to prevent one of them from 
bringing down the whole lot of them. I might contend, however, that it isn't 
all that difficult to replace the whole loop, assuming at least some of the 
trees are still standing (which appears not to be the case for Paul C's 
woods behind his house).
