By lack of stability do you mean that the tuning will drift too much to do 
this with?  Of course a real receiver is on the shopping list.  But what 
results am I likely to get using this one?

Got the NE602 today -- if the xtal shows up tomorrow I'll be trying this 
out this weekend!  What do you think I'll see?
