OK!  Thoroughly convinced, I'm going to put the coil outside.  But Lyle,
I've got to tell you -- I've only seen a foot of snow once in my lifetime,
and that was really only about 10" :(  I wish I lived up north like you do

I _love_ the cold and the snow and only _wish_ I had to worry about
buildup like you mentioned!

I remember during the winter of '83/'84 it snowed 6 or 8 inches, and then
the temp dropped to about +5 F in the daytime to about -5 at night for
about two weeks solid, and the snow stayed around for the entire time.
WOW!  Everyone was paralyzed.

If I awoke to a foot of snow on the roof I wouldn't have to go to work for
at least two days -- no one would know what to do.

But you guys have definitely convinced me -- the coil lives outside.
