[Lowfer] A bit of a problem with trimmer caps

My EF Johnson 500pf air variable gives me little trouble. I took LPS-1 and
sprayed the brush contacts last summer and it is still working. Of course my
cap is the size of Bill's final enclosure so it might present a bit of
trouble stuffing it in there. The 3/4th inch pipe variable cap would be good
as there are no contacts to worry about but it is 21" long. Hi Hi... It
would handle a bit more current though when we go down on 136kc with some
power.
How about mounting the trimmer cap in a sealed enclosure filled with
vegetable oil???

Last night I installed the 'loop killer' solid state relay in the final
to
the 3/4" test loop.

That's tubing size, right? ;-)

Hmmm - the only likely component that could cause this is the
compression mica trimmer capacitor.

Interesting as I plan on ordering some high Cap mica trimmers to use
out-of-doors from Dan's. But can a check of capacity be made relative to
that commenced with? I know that's mostly good hind sight. My instincts
would lead me to now substitute the cap. Further, if the new cap works
ok, could a measure of cap. be taken so if the problem repeats a
combination of fixed micas could replace it?
I'll stay attuned on the outcome.
