LEK, IP, MP,
Started listening at 7P on 185.300 using Argo 131 on NW-SE loop. Saw
light traces on LEK and IP. By 9:15P also see MP. Wx here was clear,
temp near 8F, a recent drop from foggy weekend and low 30s.
This seems odd. After seeing MP as above, I switch to E-W loop and LEK
& IP are gone but MP seems at same level, expected a higher reading. By
10P MP fades out. By 10:30, MP comes back. Quit listening for the
night.
At 7A this morning, bearly a trace of LEK on the NW-SE, only
recognizable by the freq. Switch to E-W loop and a strong MP signal
appears. This time the switch between the 90deg offset loops showed some
dif. When I shut down at 8A, MP very bright.
I should qualify these reports once in a while. I'm using different
manually turned loops. 1) the 10-footer from Mitch's site, 2) a 21 turn
6-footer, both mounted at 3 feet above ground for lowest part. Both have
amps. I have a good 12 foot guyed pole for the 6 footer, but getting to
the loop's tuning box has kept me from sticking it up there. Plus I'm
constructing Lyle's bal amp for it and am waiting to complete that. It's
now series tuned w/ ferrite x-fmr for coax feed and sits on a work stand
on a yard table. The stand, built for loop construction and testing, was
a worthwhile effort, having previously struggled w/ unmounted loops in
awkward, leaning/falling positions.
