[Lowfer] Working On Vertical

Someone mentioned using PVC pipe. A few years ago a group of us in the
So Cal area went out to help Randy Sedan - "ELU" - try to erect a 50
foot helical antenna he had wound. As I recall the pipe was 2" stuff,
but may have been slightly smaller. Anyhow, we had a gin pole of sorts
plus guys on the roof of his house pulling plus several guide ropes. On
the first try both ends of the pipe were touching the ground when the
middle was as high as we could get it. Eventually got the thing up, not
very straight, but "good enough for government work". The main problem
we had was that everyone got to laughing so hard it was almost
impossible to hang onto the ropes!

This was in warm California. I suspect that in the cold that pipe
would have snapped in two.

P.S. The helical didn't work worth a damn!
