Interesting, esp. in this weather. Wonder if you considered using guyed
PVC pipes, up, say, 35 feet. I've seen the 2-3 inch types in 20 foot
lengths. Telescope two of these with the top finished in a pvc flange.
This could hold the hub of a top hat. How much/how little of top hat?
Well more hat is for the good but one could start w/ something
reasonable, given available guying, ability to raise whole ant, need to
frighten neighbors. :) Note, haven't tried above, though have handled
the 20 footers in the local home store. HeHeh.
Lyle's site has good basic info on a LowFER vert., extrapolate from
there for your needs/facilities. One point I believe is axiomatic for
hats, bond the end-points together, as in a spider web. So consider 6
spokes, could be wood and lace them with wire. Bingo, top hat. Spokes of
4 feet gives a mighty 8-foot hat! But I'm certain most on the List would
prefer a metal one, larger, though at some increase in weight. So, the
question: How much? Ha, how much will the center pole bow on lift-up?
That may be the biggest problem.
Just some thoughts on a weird foggy day,
