The condenser (hurts to say that old word) is part of a LCR circuit in the
primary side of the old ignition systems. The capacitor did a lot more than
just suppress the arcing at the contacts. Jay has an AC circuit and it
isn't quite the same. Capacitors sometimes work - MOVs are sometimes a
better solution, though, because they eat energy. Resistors work too.
