My two cents' worth on the watering hole...
I agree with Steve and Bryce. This "watering hole" concept is an excellent
idea, but not for 365 days a year. Some will want to stay there full-time,
and there's nothing wrong with that. But you must certainly move off to
exercise the wider-band modes, as well as to provide a more QRM-free
environment. QRSS30 is a very effective mode, but I'd hate to see
experimentation with others be hindered by the feeling that we have to
cluster in happy groups. It sure is fun to see captures of a bunch of
stations, but do we need that "fix" every day?
TAG will continue to wander around doing various things, and I seriously
appreciate the efforts of those who follow it. And as Jay, Mitch and others
have pointed out, sometimes you just want to go into receiving mode for a
few days. Since my antennas are very close together, I have no choice but
to dump the transmitter when that urge occurs.
But right now, I'm having fun watching Steve's Grabulator and comparing the
fading patterns and daytime signal strengths.
