Forgot to mention a test I ran in the back yard, quite some time ago, but 
have it documented in my notebook. This was back when I recall first 
subscribing to this reflector to report the findings (how dull it was back 
then <G>).  I had run an E-probe up and down 10 to 40 ft to accurately 
measure the signal strength change. I also tested a 3ft diam loop the same 
way. The signal strength on the E-probe was very close to being proportional 
to the height but found no change at all in the signal strength of the loop 
with height..... BUT the background noise DID go down considerably with 
height.

To eliminate the effect of 'tree shielding' on the E-probe I repeated the 
experiment in an open field and the results were the same.
