Dear Sir,
After learning of KFI's unusual frequency drift via the Lowfer List, I
decided to
quickly try for reception on Saturday evening.
Using an Icom 746 in CW mode, with a 500hz CW filter I can detect several
carriers on your frequency including regulars here from Cuba, Atlanta,
Louisiana,
and others. At my location just outside of Birmingham, these stations can be
heard
nightly. They all appear as nearly perfectly straight lines on the Argo
display.
The "peak reading" is at 804.62hz. Usually I adjust my calibration for
signals
to appear at 800hz...but since it's "off season" for Lowfers, I haven't
performed
calibration for several months. I simply adjusted my receiver frequency to
center the "channel" within the bandpass window of Argo.
Starting at around 2300 CST I began to detect another signal seen at 799hz
that
clearly was drifting in frequency over time. Screen captures are available
at:

Checking my overnight captures this morning, the signal is fairly constant
overnight, but then fades at local sunset, reappears briefly, then fades
completely. This would be expected for a signal from a station west of
my location.
Antenna used was a Western facing EWE antenna that I constructed just
for logging the Western States on MW.
Note that no trace of KFI's audio was ever detectable at this location, nor
have I logged KFI here during my past two years of BCB DXing. KSL and
KOA are frequently heard, and less powerful stations in the Western
states have been logged on occasion, but have not heard California
except on the expanded band above 1610khz.
I would appreciate your taking a look at the screen captures and
verifying that this is indeed KFI's signal. Thanks for all your effort on
this...
it's a rare opportunity for DX'ers.
