I'll go along with Lyle's suggestion of returning to spark (Type B). I
don't have a 500 cycle generator but give me a week and I can get on
with a Thordarson 1 kW RS, Bureau of Steam Engineering Capacitors, and
an Amrad quenched gap. Can fire up a receiver with either spherical
Audion or else Audiotron, Baldwin phones. Maybe hard to get to 200
meters, but 1500 meters should be easy. What say we have "spark night"
once in a great while, perhaps in the very early morning?
As for ham radio going to hell since it started, so has the human race
so what's new? Ever read Irving Vermilla's "HAM NUMBER 1" in a pre-WW1
QST?
Only partly joking,
Ed
