It is a function generator chip, with he frequency set by a
resistor-capacitor combination. It is perfectly good for a signal generator,
assuming that the frequency doesn't have to be accurately known or
maintained.

For beacon use, just advise John Davis that you are running QRSS30 somewhere
between 160 and 190 kHz.
