Thanks (to everyone, both on and off the reflector) for the suggestions.  
I have a single-tube regen design to start with that was meant for 
broadcast band up to about 8 MHz.

I should be able to play around with the tank circuit and make it tune LF ...

In the meantime I've been looking at the R75 -- wow.  _VERY_ nice, and 
with a dizzying array of available filters and options (which they don't 
exactly _give_ away, either :)
