Yes, sir!  And as you know, the 1N34 is just for when you are feeling 
lazy...whatever you can find along the railroad tracks will work, too, and 
is a lot more fun :)

After some off-list suggestions, I'm trying to find a transistor-based 
regen circuit on the web -- looks like that might be the ticket for my LF 
woes.  I _have_ a single-tube regen _kit_ meant for the AM broadcast band 
up to about 8 MHz.  I suppose I could re-wind the coil for that, but I 
hate the 45-volt power supply and cumbersome-ness.

You are right, though.  Crystal radios are too cool.  Hearing those 
stations boom in with no amplifier makes me realize just how much juice 
there is in the air!
