Wow, that is bad. Definitely try from a different location. I could still
hear my signal while standing under a big powerline 10 miles north of here
while using an active whip antenna and the Sangean 909 receiver. Watch
wearing headphones on LF as the lightning crashes can be real loud. Ouch!!!
Keep trying.

Mike, OK... just letting the center of the coax of my dipole touch the
antenna jack, and with the pre-amp of the radio turned on, I hear nothing
but background hiss at 60 KHz; a long, unbroken tone at 63 KHz; another
long, unbroken tone at 82 KHz; and empty hiss at 100 KHz. I also switched
the coax with a very long #10 AWG insulated wire that stretches a whole long
way across my lot, and I heard the same thing.
I have some power lines that run about 35 feet away from the dipole. Could
those be masking these low signals? I have really good ears, and despite
listening intently with headphones on, that's all I can hear, static. Think
I should try checking the signal from a different location, with a different
receiver?
