LowFERs,
Re: Var Cap Source, Teflon Wire Source, My New Loop Plans
While on the Web I came across a xtal radio site in MN. On it they
offered parts and kits. One of the parts may be useful to lowfers and is
getting hard to find: a 430 pF air var cap with a standard metal frame.

Also I found Teflon covered wire in large quantities at RF Parts. No.
18-24 sizes and as low as $0.10 / foot over 500 feet. Not Bad for Tef.
-------------------
Further, I'm making a new type loop such as Mitch is using, a 1-turn
shielded 10 foot sq, using light coax inside small PVC tubing. [Mitch
uses a Cu frame.] I plan to use the "companion" Burhans loop amp that
Mitch uses. I'll be making that too, thanks for plans/notes Mitch.
Plan to suspend it from a tall tree branch, also as per Mitch. Though
this may be floppy in a stiff wind, typical nights here in N IL are near
still and that's when I'll be using it. This should allow for a lighter
frame than, say, that of a pole mounted box loop, as is my current rx
ant, a 6-foot, 20-turn spider wound loop.
Well, while needing a small of PCB for the amp that would fit into a
octagon electrical box, I found a new way to cut the board that works. I
used very large metal shears and got a clean cut. Ha, no more hack
sawing for me. This tip was given to me by the FAR Circuits man, as per
my prior post.
Cheers, Peter
