   I wound a 160M coil for the 2N2222 oscillator today.  No more chirp, but
the xtal frequency has moved up to 1803.1 KHz. Maybe I'll add a trimmer cap
tomorrow to try to bring the freq back down to 1802.2.   Stations from
Alaska
to the east coast listened for it last night, but only W7LR in MT and K5NA
in
TX heard it thru the QRN.  K5NA copied it for the second morning in a row.
It will continue to be on all night through Saturday night.  ID is 10 WPM
CW.
I have posted about it several times on the 160M reflector and have received
over 15 positive responses, one neutral, and two negative.  In response to
the criticism of those two and because I've learned that the ARRL band plan
is to operate 160M beacons at 1999-2000 KHZ (I have no xtals there), I will
discontinue the 15 mw 160M beacon this weekend.  I am using a Boonton 260A
Q-meter ( a new learning experience!) to help design my coil for the 10'
160M
antenna.   When the 10 foot antenna is operational at 100 mw (about 1 mw
erp), I will email everyone who has heard or expressed interest in hearing
the 15mw signal,  so that they will have a chance to listen for the 1 mw erp
signal.  After giving those interested a few nights to listen for the 1 mw
erp signal, I will then move the beacon to 1695 where it may never be heard
again with the strong 1690 and 1700 KHz broadcast signals.  What do you
think?  I have been listening for LOWfers and MEDfers every night and
morning, but the QRN levels continue to be very high here in central
Colorado.
