Put my 15 mw 160M beacon on 1802.2 last night. Only one report received-
from K5NA in Austin, TX (about 700 miles) who reported it peaking 379 in QRN.
I'll continue to work on my 10' MEDFER antenna today. My first MEDFER
antenna attempt is a converted Hygain trap vertical with the 10, 15, 20, and
40 meter traps removed, but the 80 M coil and whip remaining at the 10'
level. It resonated around 4500 KHz. I added some base loading yesterday
afternoon to bring the resonant frequency down to 2700 KHz. I will try
adding a tophat and more base loading today to bring it down to 1800 KHz.
I'm tied in to the radial system I have for my Hytower and 160M vertical.
I'm guessing a very well performing 10 foot vertical on 1802 KHz would be
about 20 db down from my 100' top loaded 160M vertical that I am using at
present. Comments? By inceasing power from 15 mw to 100 mw, I will gain
about 8 db so I'm hoping to be no more than 12 db down from my present signal
when I switch to the 10' antenna next week. A week later, I'll switch to
1695 KHz. Please listen for me tonight on 1802.2 KHz, 10 WPM CW.
