Re: Printed Circuit Board Source

Sorta continuing on from yesterdays "dream world" account of the
Peoria, IL, hamfest, there is one thing I left out and will mention now:
PCBs for Lowfer use.

One of the big-display vendors present was FAR Circuits from Dundee IL.
FAR advertises and is on the Web, but there he was with large boards
displaying many of the PCB board kits and narratives offered. It was
much easier to get into building mode standing in front of the real
things than mere screen or page text could induce. He had the
Gentges/AMRAD Active Ant. boards among others. I picked up two
"experimenter boards for IC projects. These come in various forms and
offer islands and bus for other components and for a modest $4-5. See
at:

http://www.farcircuits.net/misc2.htm#IC

But what I jumped at was scrap, small-sized PCB. He had a box of it to
select from for 15 pieces for $1!! Some if it was conveniently 2-3
inches wide and 12 inches long. (Try cutting that from a big chunk.) I
asked him for a tip on cutting board and naming my ideas of the office
paper (don't work) shear or sawing and filing (bad for dust). He said to
use LARGE sheet metal snips. I have to try it. Another tip on etching
was to heat the brown stuff, don't do it cold and expect a clean etch. I
even got lectured about not using common masking tape <g>, but this I
knew and guess I shouldn't have exposed my vices to a pro. Ha, now where
did the wife hide that nice flat Pyrex bowl. ...

Mike: This note's for you about that cheap vac. cap. I didn't get one
for $14, I merely said that as an instance of paying for a GOOD bargain
with too big a bill. Sorry for any component duress, Mike <g>.
