This isn't the best environment for an E-probe because of the shielding 
effect. The shielding increases as the density of the trees increases. This 
is a good application for your portable receiver once you adapt it for this 
antenna. Touch the probe to a tree limb and you will be surprised with the 
signal improvement! In this case the tree, which has some conductance, 
becomes a 70ft antenna, even though its sensitivity is reduced because of 
the resistive divider running to ground via the root system. ..... So place 
a cut in this path with your chain saw. <G>

If you place a nylon cord over the top of one of your trees you can raise 
the probe and experience a near-proportional increase in signal strength 
with height above ground.
