I'm back on but Roger still has a final problem, I think he will wait
until it is light out to finish fixing it. I'll be curious to see if you
get anything John.
Mike, I am using my transmit antenna to listen and nulling out
substation noise to the north of me with the receive loop. LEK and WE
are too strong to null. I have had success with setting the RF gain on
the radio I am using so that the stronger signals don't pump the AGC.
On the TS-140, Lyle's signal is about S5 when the loop and tx ant
preamps are set right. I reduce the RF gain until the S-meter needle
sits at about s6. I still get some dogbones but the background color
does not pulse as much. With QRSS the weak signal still appear in
between things enough to copy on good days. I have a field strength
meter in the house that shows nothing in the summer but has to be
detuned to stay below full scale in the winter. It is just starting to
move the needle so if things stay cool, I expect to start getting out
and also hearing others soon.
Doug, good luck as well and I thought I'd let you know that I have an
array of 4-19 element 70 cm antennas on an elevation rotator sitting in
the back yard that I hope to get on the tower this weekend. Hope to
have it all ready for the Leonids in November.
Time to shut the PC down for the night.
73 & Good listening,
