Made several improvements since AH was last on the air about two weeks ago.
I traded one of my Hytowers for a Tailtwister rotator, and the MEDfer antenna
now sits where the Hytower was, on high ground with an elaborate ground
system. AH is being heard locally almost an S-unit stronger than two weeks
ago. Using the Medfer antenna in this configutration, I was copied from
California to Arkansas on 160M (1818 KHz) two nights ago, and made several CW
contacts with the best report being 559 from Utah. Today I resonated the
antenna on 1695. Unfortunately, I'm still on 5 WPM CW, having fried the
laptop COM ports a couple weeks ago. The K1EL device for QRSS is on order,
but I think it may be possible to hear my 5 WPM CW with the present setup.
I also have the LR "Simple LOWfer transmitter" working, with one watt out. I
have a HDPE barrel wound with 61 turns 14 guage wire which gives me 3.25
millihenries on the Q-meter which I'm hoping is just a little less than the
Hytower (yes, I still have one) needs so that I can find the correct amount
of inductance using the 3.25 millihenries and another coil of several hundred
uH. How have others done this?
Please listen for my 1694.9 "AH".
