Archie,

This continuous "S9" noise reminds me of a visit to see my folks in Cedar=
Rapids, Iowa. I took my portable SVM with me hoping to snag some good L=
F DX in this 'obviously' low noise city. I was amazed to find the whole b=
and was wall to wall noise in the parking lot near their apartment. I tra=
ced the noise to a power line 1/2 mile away and as I drove parallel to th=
e line toward the industrial park area of town the noise got even worse. =
It appeared the power lines were actually carrying the noise from this ar=
ea into the suburbs. I measured 1000 uv/m noise in the street out in fron=
t of one of these businesses! Didn't even sound like a 60Hz rasp typical =
of a leaky insulator. Never figured out what this noise was all about but=
am sure glad we don't have it around here!
