LOWfers,
Thought I'd take a look at the Bilial Isotron web page. I think their
antennas, manufactured not far from where I live- though I've never visited
them- have a pretty good reputation. Their 160M model is 9.5 foot high, 16"
wide, and 15 inches deep, conforming to FCC part 15 for the MEDfer antenna.
Has anyone used or built such an antenna for the high end of the MEDfer band.
Maybe there is a discussion in the archives? A 50' LOWfer isotron antenna
would be a sight to behold!
My Medfer antenna is giving me fits. I made a bigger and more symetrical
tophat yesterday. I also realized, after reading Lyle's antenna page for the
upteenth time, that one of my problems is the distributed capacitance of my
65 turn, 5 gallon bucket wound coil. I'm only using 19 turns, so there's a
problem. But why oh why do I get various apparent resonances at 1802 KHz (my
test frequency) with different amounts of inductance and sometimes even get
the resonant frequency to increase in frequency as I add inductance (wouldn't
it be great if we could actually lower the resonnant frequency by reducing
the inductance!- ha). I'm trying a 2 /1/2 gallon bucket-wound coil today.
There is not a blade of living grass left on the footpath to my antenna.
