Dex,

You may have not been following all the mish mage of posting about this tree
antenna, so I'll recap: This all got started when I found that my std active
antenna design was overloaded to the Nth degree when I mounted it in a tree
back in the woods because the signal levels were so strong. (The tree acts
as a very large conducting body with ~2kohms to gnd). Then I removed the FET
amp in the probe and installed a 10 to 1 transformer and found there was
plenty of signal to meet the MDS level of the R-75 (so no amount of
amplification would help in receiving weak signals). Now there's no IM of
the strong stations against the week ones, typical of a broadband active
e-probe (particularly from the strong AM stations in this area), AND I have
never seen such a low neighborhood 'trash noise' factor, which has always
been a problem here. Right now I'm doing an A/B test against my amplified
woods loop antenna and I'm suspecting the tree probe will do a better job.
Will let you know.

Bill
