Maybe my vertical in the trees would work after all; it has a very big
ground radial system. Dex was in here all night and really screaming in this
morning before sunrise.

Lyle,
Isn't is unusual that NC would be that consistent into your area while
Mitch didn't see it at all? I'm surprised how well NC is doing towards
the south west also. The trees here still have 99% of their leaves. I
haven had to adjust the variometer at all so far. When the leaves start
falling the coil will require daily adjustments like I experienced last
fall. At least the first 25 feet of my vertical is now below tree
line. When I first used the building roof for the antenna ground plane
the trees were probably ten feet lower than they are now. The only
significant difference in the present antenna configuration over years
past is the drooping top hat wires. This allowed me to remove about
half of the windings on the coil. But the drooping top hat wires come
down to about the same level as the trees to the north and west. The
trees to the south and east are higher than the top of the antenna.
