[Lowfer] Digi Key is way fast...

I'm having trouble getting the 74HC4017 Decade Counters. I guess I won't be
able to fire up any of the Epson LF transmitters this weekend. I'll have to
build the Hifer and operate the HP cautiously between lightning storms. I
checked the timing on the Digi order and it took them an hour to process it
including programming of the Epson's. I'll be ordering again from them.

When you look at the Digi-Key catalog with all of those thousands of tiny
parts, it's even more amazing that they can find the stuff, let alone ship
orders so fast. Apparently they have an automated warehouse. When an order
is entered into the computer, the machines grab the parts from the bins,
package and label them. Untouched by human hands, except for things like the
Epson oscillators that need programming...
A few years ago there was some kind of postal strike, and shipping was in
turmoil all over the continent. Bill de Carle, VE2IQ ordered some parts from
Digi-Key and they were at his QTH, a little hamlet near Montreal, the next
day. Funny thing is that Thief River Falls isn't exactly a major airline
hub. It's amazing how they do it. By the way, Ron, N5IN is the president of
Digi-Key and is an avid contester and DXer. He may even show up at my place
for Field Day again this year. Haven't gotten him interested in LowFER
operation, though.
Hope you get your parts tomorrow, so that you can do some building over the
weekend.
