Ummm...Jon's site is certainly worth reading, but perhaps you missed
the
definition of LowFER on the LWCA site?
Yes, John, I did or, if I ever saw it, it's not something that I "see"
any longer (over familiarity?). However, Jon's was then a foreign site
and so one actually reads for content, not skimming. I view LWCAs site
almost daily, but for the message board, that's it of late.
<klip>
and I'm seriously considering adding "WhatevFER" to cover any
other Part 15 activity that comes down the pike in the future. :-)
Would that be the current, near 6M activity? [49MHz is still HF]
<klip>
Reason would tell us that if you were operating near the edge of the
aerobeacon band, you wouldn't want to use the identifier of an NDB
that
operates in your area. That could conceivably mislead a pilot if he
were
In a simplistic sense, sure, understandable. However, consider one Joe
Blow, ham call WZ9JB, who operates 120 kilometers from NDB JB. Now "Joe"
has prevailing custom on his side to use JB for his LowFer beacon at,
say, 189.992KHz especially since he will only use BPSK mode or QRSS30,
both DSP only modes. "Joe" seems to have reasoned well on this, however,
others looking the calls and locations only, say, may reason
differently.
<klip>
And there are a couple of folks who don't want their ham calls
associated with their LF or other Part 15 activity in any way.
Evidently, by viewing the list.
So basically, feel free. Simply make sure you're not likely to
confuse
anyone with your chosen call first, and you should be OK
73,
John
