Come on John....  I'm fairly sure I heard you working someone but I just
couldn't copy their call.  I heard 559 several times.

What I was hearing turned out to be the modulation from the 177 KHz BC
station.  With narrow filters voice seems to make random sounding code
elements but certain musical sounds actually sound like morse
characters. S H and 5 seems to show up often.

About midnight I was hearing a BC station around 143 KHz.  This is the
first time I've heard one that low in the band.  I wonder if there is a
BC station on this frequency or if what I was hearing was an image
signal.  I haven't found a LW BC list that shows any station below 153
KHz.  The normally strong stations at 162 and 183 were not coming in as
strong as usual.
