Uh, don't mean to be a spoil sport, but why not just operate six meters? It
offers CW, SSB, AM, FM (including repeaters), PSK31, etc. I often monitor the
45-50MHz region for video and commercial links as prop indicators and as I tune
thru, I am amused at the number of portable telephone users who are completely
naive as to "privacy" (not to mention the baby monitors that "hear" everything in
the house). I am also appalled at the large number of trashy signals that are
there too - unstable, overdeviated, etc, etc. I *have* found the portable 49MHz
VOX headsets useful for tower work, etc. but I too have had to live with QRM
there at times (back to shouting out what you need).
Also, don't forget the limitations and ramifications of part 15 - if anyone wants
to use one near a QRO six m. operator or local 48 MHz commercial/fire service -
too bad, live with it!!!
Unfortunately, I expect this post to irritate and raise the hackles of some but
if, after my time in radio I can't express an opinion (no, not arrogance), that
too is unfortunate.
