WA was put back to the normal E/W orientation about 1:00 AM this morning
(Mon) - a bit later than predicted on Friday.
Over the weekend on Cape Cod I was able to get a number of good WA audibles
at ~80mi in spite of the strong intermodulation of the E-probe antenna amp
from the local Loran C station - and the reduced input power (<1/2w) to the
loop. The most memorable location was at the old Marconi transmitting site
in Wellfleet where he made the first ocean crossing in 1906. Words cannot
describe the beauty of this isolated location 100ft above ocean level where
big waves were crashing on the beach below. Even the three seals bobbing out
of the water, from time to time, made the scene all the more picturesque.
John, I have seen your screen shot of the three loop signals from Maine,
including my QRSS.3, which produces a nice multiple horizontal line
'jamming' effect with your QRSS60 setting. Yes, my signal was weaker (even
though the N/S orientation would still be at a 45deg to you, as is the E/W
loop) due to the lower output power. I didn't have time to change the turns
ratio on the output transformer to account for the higher Rac for the #8
wire.
