I've used Photoshop (lite) for editing and conversion. This SWE permits
cropping non-essential stuff, sizing the image, selecting optimum pixels
per inch and touching-up contrast. Together, this yields very efficient
jpeg's which store easily and transfer fast. This SWE is a bit pricey though.
