Thanks for sharing the high voltage stories. I've printed this out for the
Lightening Protection section of my ever-growing LF notebook. You have more
'guts' when handling HV than most of us!
This gets me thinking about how a TX loop responds to lightening. (Get ready
for another advertisement for loop antennas) Looks like a loop does not have
the 'continuing arc' problem because the RF across the lighting arrestor is
~10 times less for the same power as a vertical. I can also see that the
most lightening proof coupling to a loop is the transformer, rather than the
capacitor 'L' network. However, because the ferrite core is somewhat
conductive, the spacing between core and secondary winding had better be
greater than the spark gap distance.
