I'm with you 210% on that, Mike!

Alas, my answer right now would have to be, they don't appear nearly as
often as we would like. I am here in an official capacity today (well, as
official as an unorganized, volunteer effort ever can be) to remind members
that WE NEED YOUR ARTICLES. Construction articles, tips and techniques, or
just detailed descriptions of how your station is setup or how you achieved
some feat of DX...any or all those things will interest some of the members.

Naturally, when most experimenters are busy actually constructing their
projects (such as, oh...say, loop antennas <grin>) they may not have a lot
of time to write about it right then. But when you do get a chance, PLEASE
put some words on paper or in a word processor file and send it in! If it
needs to be polished up, we have folks who can handle that part of it.

And don't think that just because it may not interest *all* longwave
enthusiasts, that it doesn't belong in The LOWDOWN. Hey, a mass market
publication we're not! We don't have to cater to the lowest common
denominator. We're all already involved in activities that seem out of the
ordinary (maybe even downright peculiar) to our fellow hams and/or
electronics industry colleagues. The unique is what we specialize in, so
why not let The LOWDOWN report on it as well?

Right now we have some material we're probably going to use in August. It's
from a fellow who uses his LowFER for local broadcasting--far different from
what most of us have been up to over the years, but interesting because of
the meticulous care he has put into his station...just as much planning and
effort shows up in his transmitter and antenna as anyone else's. He
declined to send any detailed schematics, though, because he didn't figure
anyone else would be interested in something so far off the beaten path.

Well, I don't know about you, but I can't think of the last time I read a
magazine construction article specifically because I wanted to duplicate the
project, *or* the last time I skipped past one just because I didn't have an
immediate need for an automatic bookshelf overload detector or whatever else
it was about. I love construction articles just to see how something works,
if nothing else!

So don't be hesitant. If it's about longwave, or circuitry and techniques
that might be applicable at longwave, send it in. No, we don't get paid for
articles or columns. But it's a great way to get your ideas out before
other like-minded readers and get feedback on them and refine your writing
style, if those are things you'd like to do. And we only ask for
non-exclusive publication rights to the material as it exists at the time
you submit it. You retain all other rights, and can expand upon or further
develop the material and do whatever else with it that you like.

So dig out that keyboard and let's give Mike and the other readers more of
the articles they've been waiting for.

John Davis
