[Lowfer] EUD and U

Hi Bob,

EUD is indeed 25W transmitter power; its ERP is open to
question, but it does use a slightly-better-than-average
antenna as NDBs go. It's one of the louder ones at home
(Gretna), about evens with XCB in Carlisle.

Once after some 'fest or other I decided to go and track down
EUD since it was pretty much on the way home; found it
by the side of the 'perimeter' track aside the runway. As I
was wandering around and taking a couple of pictures A
Black Car stopped behind my parked car; a green station
wagon zoomed across the field toward me - its occupant
then proceeded to grill me, softening only upon realising
that I was only the harmless idiot hambone that I am, and
not some commy-pinko-anarchist or fundamentalist what-
not, unruly hair and funny accent notwithstanding. Black Car
tailed me back up '30 for a few miles after I left . . .
As nice Mr. Wagon pointed out, it was a pretty dumb thing
to be doing the weekend after a Certain Well Known Event.
Good job I hadn't picked BZJ to go and have a look at,
in Fort Indiantown Gap . . .

The antenna is a 'T' of some 150' length, 30+' up. What radials
they put down under it is of course unknown, but probably
pathetic. The transmitter is a box hanging on the centre
pole itself(!) - not in a shack. It is much the same as the one
described in the web-page for COMLO 'HP' in White Plains
NY, at:

EUD is loud, and it is a decent NDB installation; don't feel bad!
Anyway, please let me know if you're going to fire up again
and I'll see what I can see from here.

        All the best,

                Steve
