Mike,

The short fast answer is that you will see very little difference
between these two designs. If you use four wires, they will
be spaced so closely together that you will see very little
increase in capacitance.

If you're limited to the two choices, I'd build the three wire version.
Easier to construct, less tangle in the air, and cheaper.
