Hello Peter
I picked up a Wandel & Golterman SPM-19 last year for about $180
here in the UK.
It covers 200Hz to 26MHz with bandwidths from 25Hz up to 3.1kHz
It has an LCD display down to 1Hz and an LCD display for level
measurements in addition to the normal analogue meter.
The RF circuit design is very similar to a good comms receiver,
with a diode ring mixer in the front end converting up to
40.01MHz and then a second conversion down to 10kHz where the
selectivity is provided.
I reckon that it was a good buy at the price.
