It would appear that a new record has been set for 1 watt, Lowfer
operation. Congratulations
to both Dex and Steve for this accomplishment. The old record had stood for
over
14 years.

According to information provided by both stations, the new distance mark is:

2360 miles (3798 km) (2051 nautical miles)

If John Davis or others could review this against information in past issues
of the Lowdown, I think it would be great to give it the official LWCA
stamp of approval.

If 1750 Meters becomes a ham band in the future, it would be nice to
have QRP benchmarks for both one way and QSO distances to
compare to.

Some have pointed out that what this record really indicates is that a station
with good ERP happened to be the right distance from a receiving station
with a low noise floor. True enough, but the same situation often applies
on VHF where similar records are kept. Records in this case do not
indicate which station is "best" but rather just provide benchmarks against
which future progress can be measured. Plus it's just fun!

Congratulations again! 2, 360 miles...I never thought I'd live to see the
day...
