[Lowfer] Selective level rcvr VS receive converter???

I have both. A LF engineering L111 active and a HP
SLV 3586C. So far, I have received more NDB's with
the L111 and a Palstar R30A, but I have not hooked the
L111 directly to the SLV yet. I can hear a 25 watt
beacon, GLS (206Khz), from Galveston, TX with both in
Phoenix, AZ. However, the HP is connected only to a
tuned longwire not the active L111.
My Level meter has the three IF choices of 3100Hz,
400Hz, and 20Hz. 400Hz is perfect for Lowfer CW
signals which my shortwave receiver can not do, it
only goes down to 2.6Khz.
I guess it depends how much you can get a SLV for. I
got mine relatively cheap compared to some prices I
have seen advertised.
The HP 3586C is big and heavy but it performs.
