Teflon insulated silver wire on an open frame sounds like the makings
for a good LF loading coil. But there are costs vs. benefits to consider
in addition to the amateur's need to strive for the bargain.
The alternative is to use no. 14 PVC house wire, or such--even enameled
mag wire-- space winding for good Q. This amounts to a heavier and
larger coil, something one would like to minimize. Is there a "silver
bullet" in all this. ...
So, how to determine the LF AC res. benefits of thin silver vs. the
other stuff? And does it matter whether stranded or solid? No doubt on
the Teflon vs. PVC factor.
Been using varnished wooden dowel rod for posts on large coils. But
noticed 3-foot by 3/8 in. fiberglass "marker" poles at the local F&F
store, almost $2 each though. May be a sub. for more common PVC pipe
"rods," and a smaller hole to drill and drill ... and drill.
