Dex:
I gave a shot at listening for you and Les last night and NC started to come in
about 10 and stayed strong (10db+ S/N) all night with occasional fades. I don't
know if it was propagation changes around 10 or if that's when my local noise
level dropped -- in any case, you have your usual good signal into the DC area.
I didn't see anything of XM until just before local sunrise and I am still not
sure it was XM --- if it was, you two guys were on the same frequency within
about .01Hz. Take a look at this capture photo
http://www.vais.net/~ryeg/NCXM.jpg. In the lower capture, here is a signal just
above NC -- with a little imagination one could cypher XM into the capture. The
top capture is around 1:00 and just shows the usual NC strength and S/N.
Conditions seemed pretty good with little lightning activity and some of the
typical "ringing" sounds indicative of long range signals -- probably some
European broadcast stuff.
So my receiving system does still seem to be working....... There is a
possibility that I had the range setting wrong on my super loop -- I set it for
500 miles as a compromise between XM and NC and maybe should have set it at 800
miles to favor XM <grin>.
