If I were doing it, I'd be using 1 5/8 or 3 1/8 inch copper.

Another catch is the tuning and matching hardware. I'd vote for copper
tubing or strap for all connections. The capacitors need to be low loss, and
capable of carrying some current. Beware of air variable capacitors unless
you've checked out the resistance in their bearing connections. Vacuum
variables would be superb.
