>How many of you guys have "minimal soil losses". Any measurements?

This is the $64,000 question for me these days and is a question that I ask
in my new TX loop article (soon to appear in a publication near you). I have
raised a 40'x40' test loop up and down and measured the effect on Rac. As it
turns out, as the bottom of the loop is raised >5ft above ground, very
little Rac reduction occurs and the math indicates the remaining losses are
pretty much the conductor losses. HOWEVER this is my back yard and the soil,
below about an inch of loam, is composed of a high percentage of sand.
Additionally not too far below is a granite ledge. If I place two pipes in
the ground, 10ft apart, the resistance between them is in the k ohms. A
number of guys have suggested that conductive soil is bad for a loop, so
anyone with that nice, moist, Midwestern US soil is HIGHLY encouraged to try
out a loop. If the loses are large, it's possible that the loop can be
raised a bit to greatly reduce the effect of this type of soil.
