Loafers, one and all,

We have seen a few comment to the List on what the LWCA means to them
and what some think it should mean to others. Things of this sort come
up from time to time in all groups and associations, I'm told. So are
we, the LWCA, a club, a newsgroup, or Aliens?

I hadn't thought about affixing a longer title to LWCA before this
topic was aired, but if asked to choose, I'd say we can be all of them
in a sort of informal way, in the same sense that is allowed by this
List: Few Rules, save for those of gentlemanly behavior, and
helpfulness, a quality I have experienced here. As someone pointed out,
an "organization" implies structure and more rigidity. While those are
sound tenants for a business paradigm, they can be stifling to a "free
thinking club" such as this. MOO

Some have some bristled at hearing criticism of suggestions that appear
to broaden or change the organization as if heresy was spoken. Nonsense.
Ideas need NOT be structured to be, say, only agreeable. It is wisely
assumed that any attempt at change can stir resistance. And that's not
BAD, for it establishes talking points for further discussion. I support
discussion and will partake when moved by a topic, such now. What I find
unnecessary and objectionable is for men of seeming good heart to tell
others their IDEAS should stop. That's plainly uncalled for and can
"appear" as overbearing, something worthy of opposition.

I have seen no one say that LWCA can't do/be this or that, only that
"change" is suspect: "Will it be good or evil?" That's all some are
asking, and that's for the good, their questions, concerns. Men of
goodwill can--MUST--work these things out, not be scolded to silence.

Peter, who feels better now than if otherwise. Cheers
